She waved them over, pointing to the autopsy table. One of the officers unzipped the bag, and then the two officers lifted the body out of the bag and placed it on the table.

Valentina’s gaze took in the condition of the body—pale skin and puncture wounds on the neck as if something had taken bites out of the guy’s neck until it finally found the jugular. This had to be a sick joke.

Halloween was just a few weeks away and people always went a little crazy around this time of year, but sucking the blood out of a person took it to a new level of demented. “This is a joke, right?” Valentina leveled her gaze on Detective Brown, trying to decipher if this was a prank ,his eyes did not waver.

His lips didn’t twitch as if he would smile ,this was real.

Sharing Is Caring

  1. Gruesome discovery. I’m going to guess vampires, though maybe you’re going somewhere else with this. Here in Tucson, where I live, dia de los muertos skeletons and figurines are one of the prime tourists trinkets. Never care for them, myself, though I’d rather read about them than see them.

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

Yes vampires are where I’m going for sure. Wow didn’t realize how big it was over there.

  2. Iris says:

Great snippet. Interesting to read what happens next.

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

Thank you. I can’t wait to share more.

  3. P.T. Wyant says:

Doesn’t sound like a very experienced vampire if it had to take multiple bites. Intriguing.

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

      Tehe true..very true.

  4. I like her reaction. It’s very real. I’d question if it was a joke, too.

Congrats on the release! Much success to you, Cecilia!

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

      Right?! Thank you so much.

  5. That’s a scary reality that someone would take nibbles until finding the jugular. like someone experimenting. Raises lots of questions and curiosity.

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

Heck yes. This would be so terrifying.

  6. Well technically, there is a dead body on that table so I don’t really see how it can be a joke. She got to forget the doctor for a bit and get a grip on what’s going on.

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

Yes definitely. I think she’s hoping its not what she thinks it is.

  7. Frank Fisher says:

Aww, that’s not nice of the detective. People definitely go crazy before Halloween. Very nice snippet, Cecilia!

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

Thank you. Oh yes the do. Lol

  8. I would have been hoping it was a prank, too. Man, work can really suck—literally. lol I know poor joke. 🙂

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

Especially when you work in a morgue.

  9. Best wishes on the story! I thought her reaction was very realistic and the way the cops responded heightens the dread. Well done!

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

      Thank you so much.

  10. Eden Mabee says:

It would be interesting if this body wasn’t from a vampire attack, but that Brown isn’t sure because he “knows” there are vampires around…. Though, I did wonder why she thought the dead body was a joke. Maybe the attack was a joke, but surely not the body….

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

Keep tuning in and find out! Thanks so much for stopping by

  11. Jeff Tsuruoka says:

Nice scene. It’s easy to visualize and rings very true.
