I went a bit longer today so you can get more of the effect of the scene. Enjoy.

She turned around slowly and saw Mauricio as clear as day, standing only a few feet away. His long, chestnut-colored hair was pulled back tightly in a braid that cascaded down his back.
Gorgeous as usual, but something was off ; his once bronze skin appeared pasty as if he’d been locked away from the sun.
He was built like a warrior, his clothing was different from what she was used to seeing him in. His leather attire hugged his body in all the right places.
In these clothes it looked like he’d lost some weight, but God he still looked smokin’ and didn’t that just make her heart melt. Dang, her traitorous heart.
“Xiomara you need to come with me now,” Mauricio said, sternly, but his eyes shifted nervously to the side yard, as if he expected trouble.
“What do you mean I have to leave with you? I haven’t seen you in months, and now you show up at my home and demand I go with you. Oh no sir, I don’t think so,” Mara said as she crossed her arms over her chest.
Mauricio took the steps separating them, but stayed on the last step, making it so they were eye to eye. Mara could feel the heat between them and all she could think about was pulling him close and planting her mouth on his.
Idiot, she thought to herself. After what he put her through, she should slap him.
“There isn’t enough time to explain. People I used to work for are after you and your mother.”

  1. Uh oh, time to GO! I always want to know even more about Mauricio…great snippet.

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

      Thank you

  2. nancygoldberglevine says:

Oh, wow, Cecilia–you’ve got me wondering what will happen next. Mauricio sounds very dashing but I can see why Mara would be upset with him just showing up and saying she has to go with him.

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

Heck ya she is so pissed.

  3. I think I’d listen to him. Nice snippet with a good sense of urgency.

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

      I think I would too!

  4. Love how you describe Mauricio. I can see him so clearly. Also love Mara’s inner thoughts and her conflict of how much she cares about Mauricio, but also how angry with him she doesn’t know if she wants to kiss him or slap him for disappearing for so long. lol Great snippet.

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

Thank you. I really wanted that to come across in this paragraph.

  5. Oh my, that couldn’t even go worse. I wonder if she is going to believe him. I don’t know if I believe him. I just want to yell “Why?” and “Who?” She deserve an explanation.

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

Yes she does and she will get one soon.

  6. P.T. Wyant says:

Great description of him. Nice cliffhanger. Am I confused, though, or is he her half-brother?

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

No this isn’t her brother, hr is an ex lover. We haven’t met her half brother yet.

  7. Whoa, whoa, whoa: “People I used to work for are after you and your mother.” WHO? Now I’m really curious and this just got really good. But yes, she should slap him from the sounds of it. Great snippet!

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

Lol. Thanks. Yes i think she should too just to get it out of her system.

  8. Jeff Tsuruoka says:

I like your dialogue. Your word choices really work well with the feel of the scene you’ve created.

    1. Cecilia Corona says:

      Thanks!
