Reading Corner Friday ~ Nightmares! By Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller

Welcome to Reading Corner Friday!

Today I am sharing a book that is more geared towards kids and young adults. With that being said, trust me when I tell you adults everywhere can enjoy this book too!

The reason I even picked this book up is because of one of the authors, Jason Segel. I knew something with his name attached to it would be something I would highly enjoy. I love his movies and his acting so why not try a book he wrote.

This is the first book in the series and if you love audio books you can get this book on Audible ~ Nightmares! and Jason Segel reads the whole story. His crazy character voices and everything! It definitely makes the story even more amazing when you listen to him reading it.

This story follows a young boy Charlie Laird and his little brother Jack Laird while they go through a hardship in their life, loosing their mother. Then the years that follow when their father Andrew Laird finds love with a woman named Charlotte who lives at the end of the town in this enormous purple tower.

Charlie has been having nightmares for weeks and he keeps being met by a witch in them. The witch threatens Charlie and his family. Through this whole story you are not sure who this witch is and she becomes a big problem to Charlie when he gets sucked into the nightmare world and he now needs to not only find his way out but to makes sure the  nightmares don’t enter into his world along. On top of that making sure this witch character doesn’t harm him or his family!

This story concept is so well thought out and I just absolutely loved the writing. Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller did a fa- nominal job. The second book in the series is just as amazing. More on that on anther Reading Corner Friday.Sleeping has never been so scary. And now waking up is even worse!

Charlie Laird has several problems.

  • His dad married a woman he is sure moonlights as a witch.
  • He had to move into her purple mansion, which is NOT a place you want to find yourself after dark.
  • He can’t remember the last time sleeping wasn’t a nightmarish prospect. Like even a nap.

What Charlie doesn’t know is that his problems are about to get a whole lot more real. Nightmares can ruin a good night’s sleep, but when they start slipping out of your dreams and into the waking world – that’s a line that should never be crossed.

And when your worst nightmares start to come true…well, that’s something only Charlie can face. And he’s going to need all the help he can get, or it might just be lights-out for Charlie Laird. For good.
